AACS Red Laser Recording

AACS LA is pleased to announce the availability of licenses, specifications and related documents to permit the use of AACS for authorized consumer recording onto CPRM-compatible red laser optical discs (i.e., DVD-R, -RW, and -RAM).  Any AACS licensee wishing to use this new technology in AACS recorders must sign an "addendum" to the main Interim Adopter Agreement.  Because this functionality embodies technology licensed to AACS LA by the 4C Entity, LLC, AACS Red Laser Recorders for CPRM-compatible red laser optical discs must incorporate 4C device key sets.  AACS licensees may order such 4C device key sets from AACS LA directly or, if the 4C device key sets are being used in recorders that have dual CPRM and AACS functionality, from 4C Entity, LLC.  Adopters making AACS Licensed Players and AACS Licensed Drives that read AACS-encrypted content from CPRM-compatible red laser optical discs do not need to enter the separate "addendum" (and do not need to use 4C device key sets), although those products are subject to some new obligations pursuant to the AACS red laser documents.  Content Participants that wish to have the right to seek expiration of such 4C device keys may sign the "addendum" to the Interim Content Participant Agreement.
