About the technology

The specifications currently under development consist of three parts, and are expected to be available for review in Q4 2004:

Common Cryptographic Elements

This is the core technology and it will include the media key block, cipher, and cryptographic protocols.

General Prerecorded and Recordable Media Books (format-neutral)

Will define use of the technology to manage content on prerecorded and recordable optical storage media, in a manner that is applicable to any next-generation format.

Prerecorded and Recordable Format Adaptations (format-specific)

Will map technology to specific optical media formats such as HD DVD and Blu-ray.
